This is the beat ...

This is the beat Mexican food in Toronto. theres nothing better than sitting on their patio enjoying the amazing fresh tacos and a corona while watching Kensington market.

Definitely NOT Taco Bell!

I've never been to Mexico, so it's difficult for me to say whether or not El Trompo is "authentic". What I can say is that it's definitely different than Taco Bell (blech!)/Chi-Chi's/other poor excuses for Mexican food! However, I have had so-called more authentic Mexican in places like San Francisco which tastes closer to Trompo than the chains. The taste is more subtle and food is "simpler" in the authentic. It is not dependent on the layers-upon-layers of cheese which is slathered on everything! The Al Pastor (seasoned pork) taco dish didn't actually have cheese. Instead, all the flavour was in the seasoned meat and pineapple slices! It was quite yummy...not like anything that I've had. Another difference is that I don't leave El Trompo/other authentic places wanting to barf 'cause I was stuffed. The food sat just right!

bad

my first visit was about a year ago after seeing it on tv, and it was great! the food was delicious and plentiful. I went for my second time just recently, and boy have things changed....The pico di gallo on the nachos wasnt fresh, it was soggy, and had a peculiar taste....the cheese was skimpy on everything especiall the chicken fajitas, which were black and oily, lacking flavor....the tortillas were elastic in texture, not soft as on my initial visit...and the corn quesidilla was ok, but still tasteless and bland. I will not return unless they return b ack to the standards that made them popular....horrible food....
